PhD position in applied terrestrial ecology
The Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture at Nord University invites applications for a PhD fellowship in applied terrestrial ecology : Applying experimental harvest to grouse populations in order to define sustainable harvest levels. The PhD candidate will work with a team to assess sustainable levels of recreational harvest on willow ptarmigan, black grouse and capercaillie populations. This will be done through a large-scale randomised controlled experiment. International research visits are facilitated and encouraged. Some field work in scenic environments should be expected. The contract is for 3 years with no teaching. Start date is January 2026 (flexible). The position is based in Steinkjer, Norway.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and execution of a large-scale randomised controlled experiment to assess sustainable harvest levels. Collaborate with international partners, conduct field work as needed, analyse data, and contribute to scientific writing and dissemination.

Admission and program
It is assumed that the hired person will be admitted to the faculty’s doctoral program. A final project outline with a plan for the doctoral work must be approved within 3 months of accession. Candidates must meet Nord University residency requirements. Applicants who already have a PhD will not be considered.
