OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan UniversityOslo, NorwayThe has a vacancy for a temporary position as a PhD candidate in Accounting. The position is connected to the PhD program in Social Sciences. The finance and accounting group at the Oslo Business School is a vibrant and diverse group consisting of international researchers publishing in a wide variety of academic journals. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate that has an interest in undertaking challenging and rigorous research. Besides a background in accounting, we also welcome applicants with an education background from other fields such as Finance, Economics, Econometrics or Statistics.
About the position
The PhD candidate will be employed by the Oslo Metropolitan University for a total of four years full time. In total, 75% of the position’s time will be dedicated to the completion of PhD research, while 25% to the acquisition of academic skills through teaching courses and assisting with supervising theses or grading.
The position will be affiliated with the finance and accounting group at the Oslo Business School, which is located in downtown Oslo. The PhD candidate can choose topics of his / her own interest, in consultation with the supervisor. Our accounting faculty have a particular strength in empirical auditing research.
Qualification requirements
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements :
- excellent MSc (120 credits / ECTS) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or similar degree in related fields. We also welcome applications from candidates close to finishing their degrees.
- strong interest in accounting research
- strong quantitative analytical skills
- hands-on mentality and the ability to work independently
- strong personal skills
- excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in written form
In addition, experience from research projects and publishing in academic journals will be an advantage, as is experience with empirical research.
Admission to a relevant doctoral programme is a prerequisite. Applicants must have a B grade or better on the master's thesis and an average grade B or better on the master's degree.
Admission to the doctoral program is based on a comprehensive assessment of the application, including the relevance and quality of the project description. Final project plan for the fellowship period is required to be completed and approved within three months after admittance to the post.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, PhD candidate and position code 1017 – the state salary wage scale 54, or 532 200 NOK per year.
