Research Scientists (MSc / PhD / Postdoc) – AI Engineering

SINTEF Digital is seeking a Research Scientist (MSc / PhD / Postdoc) in AI Engineering to join the Trustworthy Green IoT Software (GIoT) group in Oslo. The team develops cutting-edge methods and technologies to create trustworthy, secure, and sustainable digital solutions operating across the IoT–edge–cloud continuum, working with Norwegian and European partners in sectors such as manufacturing, energy, health, maritime, and agrifood.

  • Ability to integrate AI models into complex industrial and urban environments.
  • Expertise in designing distributed architectures for IoT, edge, and cloud.
  • Proficiency in handling large-scale data and optimizing information workflows.
  • Skill in translating research outcomes into scalable, real-world solutions.
  • Effective scientific communication in international conferences and journals.
  • Strong collaboration in multidisciplinary, results-driven teams.
  • Creativity to tackle complex challenges and turn ideas into practical outcomes.

Specific Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in programming, prototyping, and AI-enabled software development .
  • Applied knowledge in data pipelines, multi-agent AI, and distributed architectures (cloud–edge–fog) .
  • Ability to conduct rigorous experimental validation and benchmark against state-of-the-art approaches.
  • Strong track record of publishing in international conferences and journals , with openness to share code with the research community.
  • Desirable experience in collaborative research projects and, depending on profile, project management and proposal writing .
  • Valued : an interdisciplinary perspective (arts, philosophy, physics, neuroscience, law, or related areas) enriching approaches to AI trustworthiness and sustainability.
  • Languages ENGLISH Level Good

  • Eligibility criteria

  • Hold an MSc, PhD, or Postdoctoral experience in computer science, data science, AI, or related fields.
  • Advanced proficiency in English , spoken and written (Scandinavian languages are an advantage but not required).
  • Willingness to reside in Oslo, Norway , where the position is based.

We are a highly international community, working with Norwegian and European partners across diverse domains including manufacturing, energy, health, maritime, and agrifood.

    The GIoT group currently consists of 11 researchers. With strong and growing demand for our expertise, we are seeking ambitious Research Scientists (MSc, PhD, or Postdoc level) to join one of Europe’s leading research teams in software engineering and AI.
