The department of Energy Systems at SINTEF Energy Research develops sustainable energy solutions for power generation and transport, preparing society for the green transition. Through our research projects, we help create an evidence-based foundation for decision-making in industry and society.

The Ecohydraulics research group works on environmental impacts of hydropower and issues related to watercourses, applying expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology, and ecosystem services, often in collaboration with other disciplines. We contribute to the development of technology and solutions that account for biodiversity and ecosystems, supporting the transition to a zero-emission society.

We play leading roles in the EU project ReHydro and the FME RenewHydro research centre, and experience high demand from the industry for solutions to enhance power generation while addressing societal security, environment, climate, and land use considerations.

We are co-located with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) at Gløshaugen in Trondheim, enabling close collaboration, and we continually strengthen this partnership through many of our projects. What you’ll be doing : We have high expectations for our research scientists. A research scientist in our group will typically :

• Conduct high-quality research within their field of expertise
• Collaborate across disciplines, as projects usually require input from multiple specialists
• Share research outcomes through conferences, seminars, publications, and other platforms
• Build and leverage internal and external networks
• Seek funding for national and international projects
• Lead applications, projects, and work packages

This role also offers considerable freedom. You will have opportunities to shape research from the proposal stage, engage in projects you are passionate about, and leverage both your own network and SINTEF’s extensive contacts to advance your work. We are a Norwegian speaking work environment, and we will offer Norwegian courses for non-Norwegian speaking employees.
