Overview

At Pilot Flight Academy (PFA), we are dedicated to shaping the next generation of airline-ready pilots through rigorous training, a strong safety culture, and operational excellence. As Europe’s largest flight academy, based at Torp, Norway, we combine modern facilities, advanced aircraft, and experienced instructors to deliver training at the highest standard. The Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, consistency, and standardisation of all flight and simulator training. This position is central to maintaining trust with both students embarking on their professional journey and airline partners relying on PFA for well-prepared graduates. As CFI, you will lead by example, uphold regulatory compliance, and guide our team of instructors to deliver safe, effective, and standardised training every day.

About the CFI role :

The CFI is responsible for the supervision and standardisation of all flight and flight simulation instructors, as well as for the standardisation of all flight instruction. The CFI must hold the highest relevant professional pilot licence and an instructor certificate with the privilege to instruct for at least one of the courses provided.

Note : While the CFI closely monitors training delivery and supports progress reviews, overall student follow-up rests with the HT. The CFI may delegate standardisation and supervision to flight instructors but remains ultimately responsible for quality and standards.

Minimum requirements (per Part -ORA)

Mandatory (ORA.ATO.210(b))

  • Highest relevant professional pilot licence and associated ratings related to the courses provided.
  • Instructor certificate with privilege to instruct for at least one of the ATO’s training courses.

AMC2 ORA.ATO.210(b)(2)

  • 1,000 hours PIC, of which ≥500 hours on instructional duties related to the courses provided (up to 200 hours may be instrument ground time).
  • CFI may delegate standardisation / supervision but remains ultimately responsible.
  • What the CFI does day-to-day

  • Instructor standardisation : Observe flights and sims, mentor instructors, run standardisation meetings, maintain common techniques / call-outs.
  • Training quality & records : Verify lesson status, grading entries (KSA / exercises), comments, and documentation in FlightLogger (or equivalent).
  • Safety & compliance : Promote reporting, support audits / inspections with SM / CMM, and close findings on time.
  • Resource & currency : Track instructor qualifications, recency, and authorisation.
  • Assessment coordination : Arrange standardisation flights (CCF aircraft / simulator) and internal reviews; coordinate examiners as needed.
  • Liaison : First point of contact on technical / standards questions; escalate to HT where appropriate.
  • Experienced FIs with proven leadership in training or standardisation, strong communication skills, and a consistent record of safe, effective instruction.
