The Role

DNV’s strategic research unit, Group Research and Development (GRD), currently employs close to 130 researchers covering topics of strategic importance to DNV. Our research focuses on areas where DNV has a strong presence, including Maritime and Energy, as well as emerging fields like Digital Assurance, Food & Ocean Systems, and Healthcare. We conduct strategic and applied research to advance knowledge and demonstrate new technologies, working with academic and industry partners. Our largest locations are Norway (Oslo and Trondheim); we also have research units in the UK, continental Europe, and Asia. We launched a new Trainee Programme in August 2023 and have started cohorts in 2024 and 2025. We are now seeking candidates for our 2026 programme, with the following key focus areas :

• Assurance and risk management of Artificial Intelligence (AI) : data-driven approaches to gain insights, trust in AI-enabled industrial systems; applications include maritime, energy, healthcare, aquaculture, biodiversity
• Business models and digital transformation : AI-driven analytics to explore digitalization and industry transformation trends and design of future-ready business models
• Maritime : product assurance of autonomous navigation systems and AI-enabled systems, with data / information management on vessels
