Associate professor of Medicine at the Section for Nephrology, Department of Clinical Medicine
At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of clinical medicine, a permanent position (100%) as associate professor is available.
We are seeking a colleague who, together with the faculty and staff of the department, will contribute to excellence in research and teaching. The department is responsible for teaching, research, and research education in various clinical disciplines. It also hosts the faculty’s animal facility. The Department offers courses in the professional study program in medicine, as well as bachelor and master programs in nutrition.
The person we are looking for is in an active phase of the career and has strong academic qualifications within a research field which is highly relevant to the department.
The position will be linked to a position as a senior consultant at the Section for Nephrology at Haukeland University Hospital.
Work tasks / research field :
The person who fills this position shall both initiate and lead research projects, teach and supervise students and research fellows, as well as take on administrative tasks within a recommendatory time frame. It is expected that the person who fills this position will regularly submit applications to relevant national and international sources for research financing. The teaching responsibilities that are assigned to this position are primarily connected to nephrology, but the person who fills this position may also teach in areas related to other study programs within the department / faculty. The person who fills this position is expected to demonstrate a high level of ambition and good quality with regards to research and teaching, and to participate actively in the strategic planning and academic activities of the department and the faculty.
Qualifications and personal qualities :
Qualified applicants have a Norwegian doctoral degree in a relevant academic field, or equivalent qualifications including MD with specialization in nephrology and satisfies the requirements concerning educational competence. The ideal candidate publishes at a high international level, has been successful in applying for grants from national and international sources of financing for research and educational development, and has established, or is in the process of establishing, his or her own research team. Results attained in the last 5-7 years will be given weight in evaluation of the application. The ideal candidate also has experience with teaching at the bachelor- and master level or in a program of professional study, as well as experience with supervision of research fellows. Experience from different national and international research institutions, and the ability to establish international networks will count positively in the evaluation, as will experience with and interest in innovation.
The applicant’s personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.
Educational competence is a requirement for the position, see guidelines for establishment of a pedagogical portfolio at Center for medical education. The requirement is absolute for appointment as professor while an associate professor will be offered the necessary training if the requirement is not met before appointment.
The language of instruction is primarily Norwegian. It is required that the person appointed has proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at level B2 within three years of employment. UiB offers Norwegian language courses and will facilitate meeting the language requirement.
